Tanshire Park Proudly Sponsor The Elstead Marathon

On Friday the 29th June the Elstead Village Marathon took place and Tanshire Park were delighted to be one of the events main sponsors. The marathon is an annual event that has been hosted in the village of Elstead since 1912.

Tanshire Park have strong ties to the local area with the sponsorship of Elstead Cricket Club and Fernhurst Cricket Club, and our management team are always looking for ways to further support the local community. With the business park being located in Elstead, the Tanshire Park management team were delighted to be able to sponsor the Elstead Marathon.

The Elstead Village Marathon 2018

This year’s marathon took place in the beautiful sunshine we have been experiencing recently and attracted over 500 runners. The course was bathed in sunshine, but with the marathon starting at 7pm the temperature had at least cooled slightly for all the runners involved.

The route is 5.4 miles long, starting at the village green and progressing across the local commons with varying terrain to challenge runners. The run ends with a dash across the River Wey and then onto the finish line. There is also a 3-mile junior run aimed at those under the age of 16.

Mark Stokes, Chairman of Elstead Scout Group, describes what the Elstead Marathon means to the local community and the importance of acquiring sponsorship support: “The Elstead Marathon is an iconic village event now in its 106th year and is run by the Elstead Scouts. It represents our major fund raising for the year and enables us to provide fantastic opportunities, events and experiences for our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, Tanshire Park and PJ Whitmarsh, our many volunteer helpers and of course our runners, who this year on a beautiful summer evening broke the all-time attendance record of almost 570 runners of all ages from 5 to 70 years. This event remains at the heart of the Elstead village community and the Scouts are extremely proud to be its custodians.”

A Day Out for The Whole Family

Even if you are not running, there was still plenty to do at the event alongside supporting the participants. There was a BBQ, food and drinks stalls, raffles to enter and a tug of war competition at the end of the race between local teams. The event culminated with the presentation of the awards for the runners and a chance to celebrate the winners.

All proceeds from the event go to supporting the local Scout group to provide funding for youth activities.

Congratulations to The Runners

The Tanshire Park management team would like to extend our congratulations to all the runners involved and those that organise and put on such a great event. The local scout troop do a fantastic job helping to support and organise the event and it is great to be able to support this local youth group.
